The Assumption of the Blessed Mother is an integral part of our Catholic Teaching. We celebrate this age-old feast on the 15th of August each year.
In observing this Holy Day of Obligation, we commemorate the death of Mary by which she was assumed into heaven, body and soul. In addition to honoring and celebrating Mary, Our Mother, we also recognize the awesomeness of the bodily resurrection that is promised to us at the end of time.
The Assumption is a beautiful Marian Celebration of the church and a perfect time for us to look to Mary, asking for guidance in following her example in our own lives.
Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy! Our life, our sweetness, and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn, then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us; and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
Pray for us, O holy Mother of God –
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Amen.
